Pacific island minister guilty of embezzlement

A man accused of embezzling more than a billion dollars in public funds has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison, The Post has learned.

A lawyer for H.O., who was arrested in 2010, claimed on behalf of the government that A.N.A.S.L. was run by two Chinese men.

A court in New York has been unable to figure out who was the sole defendant in the case and has so far declined to award the five-year prison sentence.

In a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), both issued the following statements:

The Chinese government is firmly opposed to embezzlement and supports efforts to prosecute embezzlement by international law enforcement agencies, including the MPS and China Anti-Corruption Bureau (CACB), to combat corruption. It will work closely with international partners to fight embezzlement, protect the integrity of public funds and prevent other such corruption.

According to reports, H.O., the manager of the Chinese Cultural Center in Manhattan, had worked for the ministry on a number of government contracts. On May 25, 2010, H.O. failed to disclose his $1.9 million salary to the Chinese government.

A trial in connection with H.O.'s charges is scheduled to begin in December, according to Chinese media reports.

How to shop local when retail stores shut their doors

It's no wonder that people in southern Ontario are looking to the grocery store and shopping mall as their primary source of food and health care. After all, the province's $16 billion food stamp program has already helped provide over 12 million Canadians with groceries and other low cost essentials in 2017 alone.

In some regions, shopping malls, such as Mississauga's City Centre Mall, are shutting their doors and stores are closing their doors, leaving many people scrambling to find alternatives.

Although some are forced to walk long distances for health care services or groceries, most find that the convenience of shopping at the convenience of a grocery store and not in a mall can be worth the cost and potential delays.


This new "healthier" solution

For a food shop and retail store to be in business it needs to be able to do two essential things:


Provide healthy products and options for a reasonable price

Grocery stores provide a lot of products such as fruits and veggies, but there are also other options available, such as whole grain bread, dairy products, protein supplements and the like.

By providing affordable choices through low cost grocery options and offering high quality groceries, stores can increase sales. These can boost retail sales for retailers and even help reduce waste, while providing services such as free or reduced price meals.

One way or another, it is important that a supermarket has low prices. Some, such as L'Hermes, even offer lower prices as low as $4 in some locations.

In Mississauga, an "alternative" food store and retail store in the city's west end has opened up since it was shut down in 2014.

The store is called the Dufferin Valley Food Shops and provides over 70 different local fruits, vegetables, dairy products and prepared foods, as well as a meat counter. The business has more than 400 employees – over 60 of whom have been working full-time since they opened their doors three years ago.

A food stamp-free food market

When opening up stores, it was discovered that there wasn't enough food on hand due to low wages. But the store had two reasons as to why: its location and the fact that it offers groceries on top of those local groceries.


One of the benefits that these low price groceries offer can be that if a person can't afford a $4 bag of produce, the produce is now offered for $4 instead. This is because the produce is actually sold at the same cost as the regular produce. However, because it does not make sense to pay $4 for a bag of produce, there is a market for this local produce through a market where you pa
